FAQ

All Calico Campers drivers must meet certain criteria as dictated by our insurance provider. In short, you must;

  1. Be aged between 23 and 75 during the rental period;
  2.  Have held a full UK or EU driving licence for a minimum of 2 years;
  3. Have not had your driving licence suspended for any period within the last 3 years;
  4. Have no more than 6 penalty points on your licence;
  5. Have never been banned or disqualified from driving within the last 10 years;
  6. Have no more than one fault or outstanding incident/claim within the last 3 years;
  7. Have no medical conditions notifiable to the DVLA;
  8. Have not obtained a BA, DD, TT99 or UT conviction.

We can potentially accept bookings for drivers who do not meet this criteria, please email us instead of booking online. All drivers will be subject to a DVLA licence check on collection of the campervan.

Your booking covers the cost for 1 driver. We can accept a maximum of 3 drivers per rental. Each additional driver is charged at £15 per night. If you don’t add an additional driver to your booking, your designated driver must drive at all times or will be in breach of our insurance and our terms and conditions.

All Calico rentals include motor insurance for named drivers, as well as breakdown cover and roadside assistance. We do not provide personal protection or travel insurance.

Absolutely not. Being in a campervan is about being on the open road, we are one of the few rental firms who offer UNLIMITED miles as standard.

We operate a year-round two-night minimum booking policy and a five-night minimum booking policy in July and August. Unlike other campervan hire companies, we allow pick-up and drop-off any day of the week.

On collection of our campervans, Calico Campers will process a ‘holding’ security deposit from the driver of £1,200.  A debit or credit card can be used. Upon safe and damage-free return of the campervan, the ‘held’ funds will be cancelled by Calico Campers.

Of course! If you book for 10 nights or more, we will discount your hire by 10%, simply use the discount code TEN at checkout. If you work for the emergency services, please contact us via email instead of booking online and on verification of employment, we will discount your booking by 20%.

Yes absolutely. We have a range of optional extras and in some cases we even have promotional bundles that you can take advantage of.  We’re here to make sure your holiday is as hassle-free as possible. All can be added to your booking at checkout.

Unfortunately not. Our campervans must be enjoyed on road trips in either England, Wales or Scotland.

At the start of your holiday, your campervan will be ready at 3pm for collection. A handover will take place lasting just under 1 hour. The campervan must be returned at 11am on the last day of your holiday. We will always endeavour to be flexible with these times if our booking schedule allows.

Our campervans are kept on a Gold-awarded CaSSOA secure storage facility in Chester, which is exactly where your car will be kept whilst you are enjoying your holiday.

Yes. We are part of The Camping & Caravanning Club Motorhome Hire Scheme, which means that our customers are eligible for up to 30% off pitch fees at 100 UK campsites. More about this can be found here.

We are very passionate about ensuring that the Coronavirus crisis will never financially affect our camper community. You’ll be entitled to free amendments to your booking OR a full refund if your preferred dates are unavailable should the Government impose a national or local lockdown.

We hope that once you secure your rental with us, you’ll not want to cancel! But if you do, then the following financial deductions will be made in the following timescales;

  1. Less than 6 weeks prior to rental start date – total cost of booking deposit
  2. Less than 4 weeks prior to rental start date – 50% of the total hire charge
  3. Less than 2 weeks prior to rental start date – 100% of the total hire charge

Oh yes, absolutely! We allow one dog, we just need to know about your beloved pooch upon booking. There is a small extra charge of £20 to cover our additional cleaning expenses. If you have more than one dog, please get in touch. We are very firm in that no dog is ever left alone in our campervans, at any time.

Yes! We’ve provided everything you need to enjoy cooking in our campervans. There’s plenty cupboard space for food, a fridge, a gas hob and sink. Cleaning essentials are provided, as are pots, pans, plates, bowls, mugs, wine glasses, beakers, a kettle, cutlery, a chopping board, chopping knives, and everything else you need to prepare a meal! We even have a pizza slicer ready for when you opt for a takeaway instead of cooking, and most importantly, a bottle opener and corkscrew! We do not provide tea, coffee or milk.

Our 4-berth campervan ‘DANI’ was built with families in mind.  The dining table edges are rounded instead of pointed to avoid any bumped heads, and the bottom bunk bed is low to the ground. In ‘DANI, the gas stove can only be activated by a safety switch and the mirror is made from safety glass. Our 2-berth camper ‘ARCHIE’ is more suitable for couples or friends to enjoy.

We sure do! If you head over to our Blog you’ll be able to read about some of our favourite places to visit in a campervan. Or if you want more tailored recommendations, just get in touch and we will work with you in planning an incredible road trip adventure.

Our campervans are provided with electric hook-up cables to use on campsites. For those more free-spirited, our campervans will also run from the 12V battery. Our campervan ‘DANI’ will last for 2 ‘wild camping’ nights and our campervan ‘ARCHIE’ will last for considerably more, as this campervan is also charged with solar panel energy.

We’ve been asked this a few times! We were fortunate enough to spend a year in the Caribbean, living with Claire’s Uncle who we sadly and suddenly lost in 2020, and our favourite beach bar to visit together was called Calico Jacks. Every time we say the name Calico we think of him and smile. He was the definition of a free spirit and that’s how being in a campervan makes us feel; free.
